GdAM Wayfinding Project

This is the class blog for ARTG 4553, a wayfinding project at Northeastern University in Boston.

We're taking a broad, research-driven approach to exploring wayfinding opportunities on Northeastern's campus. We're thinking about landmarks, iphone apps, isometric maps, typography, systems, pervasive computing, etc.

Our team includes architects, graphic designers and multimedia students (GdAM = Graphic design, Architecture + Multimedia).

We are:
Pam Andrade
Amanda Athanasiou
Allison Baggen
Laura Bernstein
Emily Czarnecki
Alex Davis

Due Tuesday:

Part I: Design Brief

Imagine you are the client for a wayfinding-related project at Northeastern and draft a design brief for the project. You can use the brainstorm from Friday for inspiration - but you do not need to incorporate all of the ideas (feel free to focus on one or several). Visit my flickr photostream to find the theme that your brief should focus on.

The brief should be concise (about 1-page) and include the following information:

Objective
Clearly state the intent of the project.

Background
Summarize the relevant research and analysis (from the first half of the semester) that pertains to the project.

Goals
What are the goals of the project? What criteria would describe a successful solution?

Audience
Who are the users and stakeholders? What are their unique needs?

Scope
Specifically describe the parameters of the design project and the final deliverables.

Part II: Precedents

Find 3-5 precedents for your design brief and bring them to class.
